I think the other side of it is, it intimidates and even alienates people. It's good that he is trying to encourage his friends, and that he recognizes that it is indeed progression and never perfection, but at the same time most people won't help but see this guy and think he's just some fruity environmentalist and continue on their regular lives. I think it's important to bring these people into the spotlight and recognize their contributions, don't get me wrong. But I also think the approach should be trying to convince everyone that there is at least one very small thing they can do that will make a world of difference. Not everyone will have the opportunity to trek through an Australian desert for an environmental epiphany.
